Today, I’m sharing how to knit the Polka Dot Stitch; a trend knitting pattern showing 2 variants, Mini and Mega.
Both are knit and purl patterns, easy and fun to knit, perfect for beginners.
Although they aren’t identical on both sides, we can classify them as reversible patterns; feel free to choose the right side of the work.
Honestly, I prefer the Stockinette stitch background with the Polka Dot in Reverse Stockinette, but it’s up to you.
The good news is that you can use them indistinctly for big or small garments.
However, I’d go for the mini one when knitting baby stuff or accessories, and I’d use the mega one for adult blankets or throws.
Furthermore, it would be lovely to knit a piece using the Fair Isle technique, combining two contrasting colors.
If this is what you want to do, just change the Knit stitches for Color A, and the purl stitches for Color B.
Ok, it’s knitting time!
Grab your needles and some yarn, and let’s get to it 🙂
Abbreviations
CO: Cast on
st: Stitch
RS: Right side of the work
K: Knit
P: Purl
BO: Bind off
WS: Wrong side of the work
Notes Before Starting
For both patterns, the odd rows form the right side of the work.
And the selvage (edge) stitches (the first and the last) will be knitted on every row.
Mini Polka Dot Knitting Pattern
This swatch was knitted with 100% wool yarn (worsted weight, nº 4, or medium) #ad

Rows 1 and 7 (RS): K across
Rows 2 and 8: K1 (edge), P to last st, K1 (edge)
Row 3: K1 (edge), *K1, P2, K7*. Repeat from * to *, to last 5 st, ending with K1, P2, K1, K1 (edge)
Row 4: K1 (edge), *K4, P6*. Repeat from * to *, to last 5 st, ending with K4, K1 (edge)
Row 5: K1 (edge), *P4, K6*. Repeat from * to *, to last 5 st, ending with P4, K1 (edge)
